Five Faves - February

Hows that for some alliteration in a post title?

Okay, so I wasn't great at updating the blog.  By "wasn't great" I mean "just didn't do it".  First couple of months of 2010 have been a bit of a challenge with one thing or another, but I think I'm over the worst of it.

Because we're at the end of February, I decided the best way to get back into posting would be do a Five Faves post, which will be my take on the usual monthly favourites thing.  Each month, I'll pick five products that I'm loving and I'll share with you why I love themm.

Here's this month's lineup:

Lush's Mask of Magnaminty

I started using this a few years ago and loved it, but for some reason stopped using it regularly sometime last year.  I've tried a ton of other masks, but literally nothing is as good as this for deep cleansing in my opinion.  Added bonus is that it's a multi-purpose mask and is great for your back or chest if those are problem areas for you.  It smells lovely and minty and washes off easily once its dried.  Some of the masks I've tried in the not too distant past just don't want to come off and you have to rub quite hard to remove them.  Probably not such a great thing for your skin, eh?  Also, if you've got a beauty conscious fella in your life this works for them too.

L'Oreal True Match Foundation in Rose Ivory

Under normal circumstances, I'm a MAC foundation girl.  Select SPF15 in NW15 has been my friend for a number of years.  I was in Boots a week or so ago, saw this on offer and thought "Why not?".  Very often, I struggle to find a decent foundation in Boots or Superdrug because I've got fair skin with pink undertones and a lot of the widely available foundations are either too dark, too yellow or both.  The True Match range has products for pink/yellow/neutral undertones so I'm pleased to say I found something that works.  I can't really see a lot of difference between this particular shade and the NW15 although the coverage isn't quite as good as with the MAC foundation.  It may be that I just need to build it a bit more, but I haven't had a chance to try that yet.  I think this is going to be replacing my Select SPF15 for no other reason that its half the price.  I LOVE the MAC foundation, don't get me wrong, but for work I don't think I need to be all that fancy.  It also gives me more money to spend on other goodies!  Yay!

Estee Lauder Michael Kors Very Hollywood Lipgloss in Starlet Pink

Oh. My. God.  I LOVE this.  I saw it in a mag a few days ago and knew instantly that I had to have it.  Its a super sheer baby pink and its just gorgeous.  I think the "Michael Kors" name on a product gives you a good idea of what it'll be like - essentially simple and stylish and I think this gloss fits that bill.  I've long been a fan of the standard line of EL lipglosses because they aren't too sticky and they smell lovely and apple-y and this one is exactly the same.  Its a limited edition range for Spring 2010 and so I may be going back for a couple of other colours before long...

Urban Decay Primer Potion

This one isn't really a new favourite as much as a "why on earth did I stop using this?".  I'm not a massive fan of the UDPP packaging as its a bit wasteful and I'm too lazy to be breaking things open to get the rest out.  I was looking for a better value alternative and so I had been using Too Faced Shadow Insurance which is in a tube.  Having used both the TFSI isn't a patch on UDPP.  Fairly high on my shopping list is the Primer Potion in Sin too, because I do love a bit of champagne shimmer.

Boots Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover

I'm always trying to find a decent eye makeup remover.  Ideally one that works but doesn't bankrupt you.  I've tried all sorts of things and have found that the MAC Pro Eye Makeup Remover is extremely good but very expensive and Baby Oil does the job fantastically and is cheap but isn't great for your eyes.  Then, I read an old review over on hey-dollface.com and decided to give this one a go.  I'm extremely glad I did, as I think its actually better than the MAC one and its less than £3 a bottle.  Yay for beauty bargains!

So, those were my Five Faves, what were yours this month?

I'm so jealous that your version of True Match has a pump dispenser. I can't stand the screw top bottle I have! It gives me even more of an excuse to get myself over the pond. Is that the right phrase? (Ha)
